Welcome to the Chiltern Young Riders website!

Chiltern Young Riders can provide the opportunity for people of all ages (minimum 4 years) to experience the thrills of off road bikes in a safe, controlled and caring environment.

We seek to blend fun and excitement whilst instilling consideration for other children and a healthy respect for the bikes they ride.

C.Y.R. has been operating for over fifteen years and is proud of its exemplary safety record. All children and legitimate visitors are covered by a public liability insurance to a limit of £5 million per claim. A copy is available on request.

Children are introduced to and learn on 50cc and 80cc auto and semi automatic machines which, although heavier than their pushbikes have similar saddle heights and brakes. Most children are confident within half an hour.

The courses are carried out most weekends of the year with the exception of August. Each course consists of four lessons spread over four consecutive weeks. Each class has a maximum ratio of three people to one instructor.  Birthday parties are available during the summer months.

Parents are encouraged to stay and watch their children as this will be a highlight of their lives and they will want to share it with you. However, 'Biker' dads please do not feel your input, especially in the early stages, is essential!

The children are also provided with the following safety equipment: Helmet, body armour (torso protector), knee and elbow pads, boots and gloves. It is compulsory for each child to wear this equipment. If you wish to purchase your own kit, please talk to us first.

The lessons are carried out at our track near Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire and are never cancelled because of bad weather. They will only be cancelled if CYR consider it dangerous to proceed.  Due to high demand our spaces are very limited, so please be sure that your child does wish to join the course. Please note that refunds are not available once payment has been sent.

If you and your child would like to attend CYR, please visit our bookings page which provides joining instructions and information on course availability.

Thank you

Simon Newell
